(Both of which diphthongs had phonologically merged into ⟨ē⟩ by the early Mediaeval period.)Used in Middle and Early Modern Irish for ⟨e⟩, ⟨ae⟩, and ⟨ea⟩.Used in Old Norse for /æ(ː)/, representing the Proto-Germanic */a/ (as opposed to the Proto-Germanic */e/).
