Clinical features include athetosis,MUSCLE SPASTICITY or hypotonia,impaired vertical gaze,and DEAFNESS. Nonconjugated bilirubin enters the brain and acts as a neurotoxin,often in association with conditions that impair the BLOOD-BRAIN BARRIER (e.g.,SEPSIS).
